Anybody planning to attend? It’ll be my first time there. I’m especially looking forward to Michael Cleveland and Flamekeeper.
Thomas Point Beach Bluegrass Festival - Maine
Getting a free show from the Blue Angels here. They must be practicing for the nearby air show tomorrow and Sunday. I thought maybe @BanjoBen might be up there as a guest pilot?
Never been there.
If you get to talk to Chris Douglas (Mike’s bass player) please tell him Dave Long said HI!
Yup can you no see him? He is the one flapping his wings.
I said hello for you. He said you are a bit of a legend in his area, and that he hadn’t seen “Long Dave” in a while.
Blue Angels are AWESOME!! We saw them down here in London Ontario for the biggest air show in Canadian history. It was so cool.
They are very cool. They just finished up their Saturday show. It’s a pretty nice bonus. Great music, and a free air show. Should be another show tomorrow.
Thanks Scot, I appreciate it! Yeah it’s been a few years since we’ve hung out & picked or talked.
Haha, I think he was calling me old!
The moment I said your name, he lit right up and went straight in for a hand shake, so he definitely thinks well of you.
I think a lot of Chris and his brother Loyd as well. Known them since they were little kids and have watched them both grow into being good men and really excellent musicians.
It’s been a great day. Numerous great bands, including 2 sets by Michael Cleveland and Flamekeeper. Still have the Gibson Brothers, followed by the Sam Bush Band tonight, and Del McCoury tomorrow. Is there anybody in the Sam Bush Band you want me to say hi to?
You could, but you might get looked at kinda funny like…haha!
I was lucky enough to run into Becky Buller in the elevator at my hotel this morning. She ended up sitting with us for breakfast. She saw my hat and mentioned that @BanjoBen had invited her to teach at one of the cabin camps, but she had plans for the week already. I told her all about them, and how great this place has been for me learning the mandolin. Maybe she’ll be at a future camp!
I ran into Chris at the hotel this morning. I told him you thought he was calling you old. He said that Ernie used to call you “Long Dave”.
I’ve taken a few Skype lessons from Wes Corbett who plays banjo with the Sam Bush band. Would love to say hi to him myself in person sometime
He sounded great. Do you know what kind of banjo he plays?
Not exactly. He owns a Hawthorn top tension but he plays a Gibson for shows. I can remember the model though
My dad took flight lessons and soloed in London but didn’t stay with it. Bought his banjo there but didn’t stick with it. Ha.
Went to a few Father’s Day air shows in Hamilton to see the featured WW2 spits, hurri, lanc and mosquito. The mustang was featured one year, about eight or more in like a saddle-shaped circuit down on the deck and banking steeply. The sound was incredible! I miss dad and that stuff.
Now that’s a sweet line up of planes!! I absolutely love the Spits and Mustangs.
