Bluegrass needs more singers like John Cowan

Everyone look how far Mason has come!

Not saying I still don’t like male bluegrass singers, because I do, but John Cowan isn’t really your typical bluegrass singer. He sounds more like a classic rock singer haha.

I’m a big fan of powerful, clear tenors like John Cowan and Dan Tyminski, and warm baritones like Ronnie Bowman and Tony Rice. I’ll be honest, the hardcore stereotypical high lonesome dosen’t appeal to me as much anymore. :joy:

For vocals, I’ve really been enjoying John Duffey.

Tony and Ricky are my favorite, though.

Something that may interest y’all…

I had an impersonator on my YouTube channel for the first time today. Being a jerk to a commenter to try and make me look bad. I’m really hoping this doesn’t become a common occurrence :man_facepalming::joy:

Alan Bibey is filling in with Balsam Range and it’s one of those cool subs you wish so hard could end up being permanent…!!

Fun! I was wondering who they’d get as replacement, but they have a great fill-in in the meantime it seems…

So I was finally able to use a Blue Chip flat pick the other day… It felt extremely similar to a Dunlop Primetone to me. If you blindfolded me and had me use both I don’t think I could tell them apart. If other people feel a difference though that’s cool, I bet it would become more apparent if I got used to it as well. That was just my impression after playing a few songs with one. I know they also make a lot of different ones, I don’t remember what the one I used was :joy: I do think it’s cool that there are affordable flat picks so similar to Blue Chips, I haven’t found anything at all similar to the thumb pick for a low price :joy:

Btw, I was just giving my thoughts on the Blue Chip here since I was finally able to try one. I will never again assume I know what other people feel :joy: I’ve heard people say they feel nothing like a primetone and other people say they feel similar, I guess it’s different for everyone haha. Plus I wouldn’t have been able to compare the tone difference anyway because I was playing nice guitars with it and the one I’m used to is cheap, I was just elaborating on what it felt like to me. I forgot to bring one of my picks to directly compare. Maybe that booming sound from the guitars was actually because of the Blue Chip :scream::joy:

Compared and elated, huh? :joy:

Anyone going to Withlacoochee this March? So excited that our band is going to be playing 12 and 5pm on Saturday!:notes:

It’s a great combo but kinda confused me. It’d be like hearing Ricky Skaggs joined The Grascals or something. But maybe Alan had reasons for wanting to go from band leader to sideman. :slightly_frowning_face:
