The Roy Noble #0075 restoration is finished

If you have been following the restoration of the Roy Noble guitar that I have been working on, you know that it has been under the knife for a few months. To quickly recap, this acoustic guitar was brought to me broken, split, water damaged, chemical damaged and in extremely poor condition. The body was split from the neck block nearly to the waist on both sides of the guitar, the neck heel was broken in two places, the bridge was sanded down, split and broken, the finish was in terrible condition over much of the instrument and the back had full length cracks and separations. Thinking back to the moment I decided to restore it makes me giggle uncomfortably.

The fellow who brought it to me was carrying it to the trash when he remembered that he was picking up a guitar I had restored for him the next day. He found the broken instrument in his mother’s basement and claims it was there when she bought the home decades ago (along with lots of the previous owner’s trash). So he brought it to me and asked if I wanted it. When I spotted Roy Noble’s label on the inside of the guitar, I decided that it would be a wonderful learning experience to repair Roy’s work and see how he built his acoustics. This one is from around 1968 (Roy would have been in his late 20s at that point). It is also from around the time that Roy built Doc Watson’s 12 strings (which looked suspiciously like this one).

If you have nothing better to do with your time and would like to see how I approached restoring it and how it came out, take a look at this video:

To be clear, I may keep the guitar or I may sell it. If I sell it, I told the fellow who brought it to me that I would split any money made on the sale with him (even though he said that he was just going to trash it and I should keep any money made). It was a labor of love restoring this guitar and I learned so much that I feel I have already been paid. :+1:Enjoy.
