I don’t know exactly, it was at least a year ago, maybe two. It was because they were having problems with etiquette and honesty, almost exclusively stemming from the guitar listings. Also, guitar listings almost never tipped the cafe like they were supposed to.
The Poll has been decided
Coming back to this topic to say: yesterday I played two spectacular Collings D2HATs at Chicago Music Exchange, the only difference between them being that one had an aged sunburst. They sounded like two COMPLETELY different guitars, to the point that I initially thought one was Sitka and one was Adirondack. The sunburst was growlier, throatier, almost more mahogany-like. The natural was complex, softer, had more overtones. I was pretty surprised because I’ve always felt Collings were super consistent, like I said before, but it goes to show you how important it is to play a guitar before you buy it (and how I shouldn’t judge a book by its cover).
I also kind of fell in love with the natural one, but it was $8500
I agree 100%
WOOOOO!! This can stem into another topic! “Are guitars in that price point Really worth it”
But it’s like I say: “Don’t knock it, until you try it”
