Not to be disrespectful, but JD Crowe is the reason I almost quit the banjo forever.
I was one of those poor unfortunates that tried to mimic his right hand position. The Claw almost gave me permanent paralysis before I learned that it was just one man’s way of being comfortable.
Yeah, I saw him when I started years ago and said “no way” on The Claw. Never even tried. Jim Mills interviewed him a couple years back on it. It was not natural for him either and caused cramps and pain in the beginning. It was all about pick/string contact angle for him where his arm was comfortable on the rest.
