My second favorite banjo player behind JD. When I was younger I would put some of his licks and adaptations in my playing. People would say “Where did you hear that” (haha). A lot of players here in the States have never heard of him. A truly unique banjo player with a sound that has not been replicated.

Strangely enough, I had heard of Dave Hum from a video link once. Until today, I didn’t know a thing about him. I really enjoyed the Nola recording and at once noticed his unorthodox right hand positioning and wondered about it…fortunately I followed by reading the article in the Banjo Newsletter and the reason for this became much more clear. After also listening to the links in the article, I realized he really did have a style of his own, and these recordings revealed a very infectious and happy kind of sound that is a delight to behold. He made very complicated noting sound so easy.

So Archie, my attempt at a couple of Dave’s licks. Cannot sound like him but sure like his stuff.
