I was stunned when my brother told me he went to a bluegrass concert near Knoxville, TN and the band played “House of the Rising Sun.” MY brother had a fit. “That’s ain’t bluegrass! Real bluegrass comes from the 40’s & 50’s, not the 60’s!”
When I told him that his alma mater, Univ of Tenn, where everybody goes into ecstasy every time they hear “Rocky Top,” are fawning over a song written in 1967.
So by his definition, it ain’t bluegrass. That’s when he accused me of smoking pot.
