Techniques for analyzing mando licks from songs

After playing more years than I will admit, my solos are boring and still sounds like scales with a slide or two. So, I’ve been trying to analyze and mimic solo mando licks from songs I like, but I am struggling to understand some parts of the licks. Is it a triplet? A cross pick? A hammer off?

I know some say, “do your own thing” which I will do, but I want to learn how others are playing a solo, so I can not only play the song with a great solo, but learn better HOW to add the depth and excitement to a solo as well.

Currently, I’m using Audacity. I record the song, isolate the solo, and change the tempo so I can listen closely to the licks. Still very difficult. The song I’m working on at the moment is Magdalene from the SteelDrivers, with Brent Truitt as the mandolinist.
So, any tips? How do y’all do this?

Thanks in advance!
