Five years since I decided to get serious about the banjo & learn to play.
Five years since I set foot on Banjo Ben’s Learning Path.
What a long, strange trip it’s been.
I thought I wanted to play bluegrass. Now I want more.
I thought I would never get my fingers right. I still think that, only it’s in an entirely different way as I mess with melodic style.
Looking back, I’m amazed at the places I’ve been & the people I’ve met because of the banjo. It’s been wonderful, but I’m not the social butterfly I once was, and going to jams & festivals still has all the value but less appeal.
As a Beginner, I have finally begun to understand how & why everyone considers themselves a beginner, no matter their level of experience. It’s pretty exciting!
It is so pleasant to pick up my banjo and let some lovely sounds out. Sometimes it’s songs but more often it’s not, just a few chords & simple melodies coming from deep inside. Five years ago I did not know this peace.
Thank you to Ben, thank you to everyone on the Forum and thank the Lord for the blessing of music!
