What was it that first got you interested in playing the guitar, mandolin or banjo?
Several years ago my wife and kids surprised (more like shocked) me with a guitar one Christmas before I even knew what a chord was. That eventually led to discovering the banjo.
How long have you been playing and what’s your motivation to play?
5+ years. Relaxation and enjoyment…Hopefully eventually for someone other than myself! I really enjoy the continual challenge of learning something new whether a song, theory, etc.
What’s your favorite lesson on Ben’s site and how has it helped you improve?
The build-a-break lessons are very helpful in learning how to hear a melody, pick it, then progressively enhance it.
What’s your goal when playing?
My goal is to be able to play by ear and be comfortable in jam sessions.
How long have you been a Gold Pick member?
5+ years
If you could play in anyone’s band, who would it be and why?
Kentucky Thunder or Union Station. Really admire the banjo playing of Russ Carson and Ron Block.
What type of gear or accessories have you found that work best for you?
The banjo mute has been invaluable for practice at home. Was everyone given one of those at camp or was I singled out?
If money was no object, what would be your dream instrument(s)?
Gold Tone “Twanger”
How did you find out about Banjo Ben?
Through a friend.
