Strings and tailpiece cutting into pot

Hi. Changing my strings today as I do every presidential election cycle whether they need them or not and noticed that there was a little damage on the pot near the tailpiece where the strings and tailpiece are diggin into it. Is this a big deal? Is there anything to do to prevent this?

I can’t tell from the photo precisely what damage you’re talking about, but if there’s damage, somethings not right in your set up. I don’t think there should be contact where you are showing wear.
Here’s a bunch of videos & articles on setting up the tailpiece. One should work for you, I hope!

Agree with @BanJoe, also tough to gain context from the pic.

Thanks. Yeah I think I tightened that tailpiece down as tight as I could thinking that it was tightening the pot. I moved it up some so the strings are no longer touching the pot.
