Does anyone have any suggestions for a strap that I. can attach on my A-style mandolin at the headstock and at the other end to a peg. There seems to be many different ones.It seems that the strap would have to be really thin at the headstock. I was thinking about trying the super soft flat mandolin strap for A-style or F-style. Any input would be greatly appreciated for the strap and how to best attach it.
Strap for A style mandolin
Hi Amy,
My 1st mandolin was an A style Ibanez.
I put a boot ‘shoelace’ thru the area where the neck meets the body and made a loop to attach the strap to, and hooked the butt end onto the button nearby the tailpiece. I’ve also tried the same idea but pit the boot lace thru the area behind the nut underneath the strings on headstock end (not wrapped around the headstock where tuners are). Both ways worked well but I found the headstock attachment point cause the strap to kind of get in the way vs attaching lower down the neck.
Here’s some pics I found (from.the web, not my photos or mandos), hope this helps:
Pinegrove leather sells great straps, and shipping is surprisingly fast with good prices to the US. I’ve bought from them twice (one for each mandolin) and they’ve been great!
-this strap looks almost identical to the 2nd picture @Simone posted, maybe it is the same…?
I have two As and did the straps similar to Simone’s second picture. For the most recent one, I got a Lakota leather strap and it is very, very comfy.
@Annie_Simms To be more specific to the question u asked, I’ll add, most leather straps will soften up and flatten down enough to fit around the headstock. And likewise, stiffer leather straps will soften up over time around your neck. So whether u get a soft strap or stiffer strap u will be ok as long as it’s a single piece strap that’s not tooled leather.
The strap I have is this one:

I really appreciated all of your input. I am a visual learner so the video and pictures were extremely helpful. Thank you so much.
