Some prayers for my dad please

I know this is a group that believes in prayer. My dad could really use some. Last September, we lost our mom, his wife of 52 years. This weekend, he lost his home. I don’t think I’ve ever seen my dad cry, but this was just too much for him. Any thoughts, blessings, prayers you could send his way would be much appreciated.

@Flatpickin_Libby, Dad went on an overnight trip to Louisiana and left a heat lamp on the porch for his outside cats. That’s probably what started the fire. Estimates are that it started around 10:30 Friday night, but by the time any neighbors saw it, the flames were 20 feet high.

What’s not burned to a crisp is smoke / water damaged beyond use. It’s pretty much a total loss. Dad seems to be taking the loss of his one indoor cat the hardest of anything he’s lost. It was that cat’s behavior that made him go have his chest pain checked out 6 years ago. Turns out he’d had a heart attack. That cat was literally his companion. My heart is broken for him. :pensive:

I am so sorry for the loss of your Mom, the loss of his house, the loss of the pets, the loss of all possessions. I pray that you both KNOW that God is with you, weeping with you for your loss (John 11:17-35). I will be praying.

May I share a few thoughts?

I know it is very tough! But it’s now in your hands, @Mark_Rocka. If you have a willing heart and ear, you will begin to see restoration. Why don’t you give it a shot and share it with your dad as well?

Lukje 19:10, Jesus said,
10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

This is said in the context of Zacchaeus story.

Jesus also expressed his purpose here…

Luke 4:18,19,21,
18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
21 And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.

Today God operates through TRUE Church where he is present to operate towards restoration in the life of one who has willing heart and ear!

2 Corinthians 6:2
… behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation

And you do not have to accept anything yet until you see the restoration! But willingness is a pre-requisite.

Just to clarify on what is true church… This can be shared with your dad too.

Some of you know I quoted the below scripture in support of the state of today’s churches – either they are lost or fake! (Meditate the full chapter of Psalm 73 to fully understand it.)

Psalm 73:27 “For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee.”

But I’ll further explain it with an example from an incident in the Old Testament scripture passage. (Again read Joshua 1 & 2 for full context.)

Joshua 2:18-21
18 Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which thou didst let us down by: and thou shalt bring thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father’s household, home unto thee.
19 And it shall be, that whosoever shall go out of the doors of thy house into the street, his blood shall be upon his head, and we will be guiltless: and whosoever shall be with thee in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand be upon him.
20 And if thou utter this our business, then we will be quit of thine oath which thou hast made us to swear.
21 And she said, According unto your words, so be it.

Here is an oath taken up under the covenant between the children of Israel, who were in the fold, and Rahab, the harlot, one who was outside the fold. To enter into the fold and to avail the promises, Rahab had to enter into the covenant by belief via an oath. According to the oath, Rahab could still lose the promises when:

  1. She goes out of the doors of the scarlet threaded house into the street - signifying the lost church’s wandering away from the protection of the blood of the lamb in ignorance/disobedience.
  2. She utters the business of the children of Israel to their enemy - signifying the working against the interests of the kingdom by the fake church

In the former, one gets destroyed in the crossfire in the battle.
In the latter, God destroys one.

The true God’s fold is the true church which provides a guarantee indicated in the bolded scripture. True God’s fold takes it upon itself to protect the “willing and listening” people.

@Mark_Rocka - we are praying! Please let us know if we can do anything more.

@Mark_Rocka if you can comfort your dad with this, think what a miracle it was that he wasn’t home. In the midst of fire, house loss, and so much tragedy, his life was saved. And that’s what really matters. God was holding him safe in His hand and will continue to look out for him because He watches every sparrow. I’m sure it’s unbelievably hard, but all things … even cats… can be replaced. :orange_heart: Psalm 37:23-25 / Psalm 50:10

I’m sure you all know of the Turkey earthquake today. Just thinking about how good we all have it, no matter what we’ve lost. It could be so much worse.
