Today I went to the music room for some °string therapy° (aka practice) and after playing some of the songs I know (on a basic level) I decided to try something new. I downloaded @BanjoBen guitar only play-along track for Softly and Tenderly and then began playing (by ear, Ben, no tab!) simple solo’s with it on my mandolin. Almost brought myself to tears. No, it wasn’t that good…but it sure brought back memories of my grandmother (mom’s side). She was deeply devoted to the Lord and knew a lot of scripture and a lot of hymns. She had a beautiful voice and I always enjoyed visiting with her when I was young. She sat there in her rocker, Bible nearby, chatting with me and then she’d open her mouth and a hymn would fall out! Softly and Tenderly was one of her favorites…and therefore one of mine. The guitar track is really nice and easy to play along with. Thanks for making my practice session extra special today, Ben!
