Rusty Old Camper - Headin’ Home

Thought I’d share my newest original from a show last weekend! - sung by my sister Lucy, the much better singer of us!

Lyrics:

Well you learn a lot of things when you’re living on the road
You learn it’s not the walls but it’s the hearts that make a home
If you’ve never had the privilege of a living space on wheels
I’ll try my best to tell you how it feels

(Chorus)
In that rusty old camper we made memories
Roasting s’mores and making music round the fire
Rolling on to the rhythm of the tires
That was the life we shared and we were happy anywhere
We were together in our rusty old camper

I remember those tiny beds, the fridge that always leaked
That door that always rattled and the floor that always creaked
But you couldn’t beat the bacon mama fried on that gas stove
Or outshine those camper lights when they would glow
(Chorus)

From campgrounds in the forest to parks and festivals
We were home at every hookup, said each spot was best of all
And it was in that little camper where didn’t have much space
That we learned to take life at a slower pace
(Chorus)

I’m sharing this wilth my parents. We pulled a pop-up camper all of the country starting when I was 11. We didn’t share much music around the fire but we had good times in lots of campgrounds and parks.

Oh yes!!

That’s great! I was really trying to capture that spirit when I wrote the song. There are so many bluegrass songs about the old home place, the old cabin, etc., but “home” for so many bluegrassers is living in a camper! I thought an idea like this could hopefully be relatable to a lot of people!
