Nice Harrison!! Loved your up the neck break!
RK-R35 Contest Thread!
I need a new Banjo as my basic open-back has some real problems. The 5 string tuner Peg is cracked and split. The tuner itself has come out in the past. Some of my brackets are barely holding the rim and slip off when tightened, the action is super high in spite of some bridge sanding and the truss rod seems so flimsy to inadequately support the neck as even holding it can pull it out of tune while playing (to put a positive spin on it, I’m learning to lightly hold the neck, hoping that will pay dividends when I get a REAL Banjo in the future).
Not to mention, I don’t have but really need a Resonator.
I know I am not alone I being a player in need of upgrading… BUT I may be unique in that I’m truly impressed with your recognition of your student’s need and wanting to help.
All that said… if I don’t submit in time… I hope you win for your generosity, Kaleb. Even if I do enter and don’t win, I am pulling for ya!
You have an enormous heart, buddy! I am proud of ya!
awesome!!
thanks!
I do need to get a submission in… but alas, it was not meant to be…
During practice to place my submission, my 5th string would not make tuning for the rhythm track and gave out.
My drone G will not go higher than an “out of tune” LOWER G… and the Peg just spins to no affect.
R.I.P. Epiphone MB-100.
I am just glad that I still have my Mandolin.
So… as the Banjo Masters would have it, I am pulling for you @banjoboyk to win - true to my word…
But I am very impressed and pleased with all the entries posted here. Y’all did a great job!
GOOD LUCK TO ALL.
Alrighty then @Archie, I messed around with this yesterday (without picks), borrowing my eldest son’s RK35, then decided against it. Today, I saw your challenging post then I saw @BanjoBen challenging email & back to the woodshed I went (with picks) (fun times!!). So here’s my submission. Mind you, its 1st time I’ve ever attempted to play 5 string banjo so it’s pretty rough. Couldn’t handle the 2nd break (& DEFINITELY not the 3rd break) so this is a morph of 1st and 2nd breaks kind of blended together hahaha ! For the record, if this submission somehow happens to get the lucky draw @BanjoBen PLEASE PICK ANOTHER SUBMISSION to win the new banjo. I’m thankful just to have had the opportunity, forum fellowship, and great resources here on the site to have even THOUGHT of trying this. Thanks again and best of luck to everyone!! I have enjoyed watching all yalls videos !!
I had a lot of fun making this! Hope it doesn’t suck… haha!
If I win the contest, I’ll donate the banjo to the Bluegrass Heritage Foundation for the
Play It Forward program.
#playitforward
@WillCoop that’s SAD! Thanks for the support! Everyone has done such a good job on their submissions! Go US!
I like your mix Simone. Nice job
My vote is for Leo to win. Hands down.
GOOD JOB LITTLE BUDDY
A valiant effort @Simone. There was definitely a hint of the melody in there and the improvised notes clearly set your arrangement apart from the pack. With your own picks and a new banjo I can see you master the beast in a few weeks. I am so proud of you Well Done
I agree!
It works bro nice job
That was so great! The owl was a nice touch, too. Love seeing these youngsters learning to play.
Oh !! The naming and shaming has begun. Time is running out.
Sorry buddy. I won’t be entering this one. Put in about 50 hours Sunday thru Thursday afternoon and took the family to the ranch this weekend.
Just bad timing.
I loaned out my Gibson before the Quarantine, and haven’t had the chance to get it back. Used my 4-year old’s for this. Lots of fun!
