Just installed a set on my Hatfield. They work fine other than slack/take up in both directions on all but the Gotoh 5th string tuner. Very disappointing as I have a set of 25 year old 5 Stars on a banjo and a 20 year old Granada with Keith’s that have zero slack. Anyone know of a remedy? This has sure soured me on ever buying another set of Rickards in the future if this is a design characteristic.

Have you made sure the screw holding the tuner button on is tight? I have Rickard tuners on all 4 of my banjos and they’ve been on all my previous banjos as well. Wouldn’t use anything else!

@randyyoung29, that sure doesn’t sound right. Please give us a call at the store and talk with Jake about it. If for any reason they’re not functioning perfectly, we’ll work with Rickard to make it right.

No Worries. I sent them a message and they responded almost immediately. Very impressive and wonderful to talk to. The tuners have ebony knobs and may have swollen in the super high humidity we have here WV. They’re sending me a set of ivoroid knobs to see if that is the issue. I bet that is the case. Other than the slack they function flawlessly.
The only tuners that I’ve ever had that holds tuning overnight. They offered to replace them but I’m certain the issue wouldn’t be the tuners themselves, no way all of them would have the same flaw. Thanks Ben for the offer, you guys are awesome.
