hello! we are heading to Nashville for two months to see family (grandkids mostly!) and explore tennessee. i will probably check out the sunday jam at the Station Inn. can you recommend other jams in the area?

Recommended Jams in Nash area
Howdy @justjon! I’m not up to date on the bluegrass jams happening these days around Nashville, except for the Station Inn jam and one on Wednesday nights at the American Legion Post 82 (https://nashvillepost82.org/calendar). Beyond that, I’d recommend jumping on some facebook bluegrass groups and asking around.

Back from Nashville and thought I’d share my experiences after attending three jams.
First, I went to the Station Inn jam. It was VERY cool to be “up front” and playing with others! Whenever we’re in Nashville we always to for a few shows there. Well, because it’s free, it gets crowded fast. It got to the point where nobody was listening to the music just talking and drinking … so really disappointing.
Next, I went to two jams at the American Legion post 82. This is a proper jam circle and was really fun. Loved being around fellow grassers but also appreciated the fact that the US Military helps make it all happen. Apparently, there are many members of the legion who are musicians.
Another awesome thing about these two jams was that the longer you’re there, but better the music gets. That’s because the “pros” start showing up. The best way for me to describe my experience is that I was playing my banjo at 80mph, but later in the evening the speed was 120mph! So it was a challenge for me to even back up these dudes.
Anyhow, if you want a real jam, go to the legion. But playing at the Station Inn was pretty dang awesome too!
