Rd-318?

I’m ready to buy my first good guitar and I’ve got about $800 to spend max. I’ve been looking at the Recording King RD318 at the general store and was wondering what it’s closest to sound‑wise.

My dream guitar is a Takamine F360S. Does the RD318 have close to the same tone and voice?

Thanks,

The F360s is a rosewood guitar, and the RD318 is mahogany, so not quite. The closer comparison would be the RD328, which is rosewood.

The RD318 is modeled after the Martin D18, which is the quintessential mahogany dreadnought. The RD328 is modeled after the D28—same deal but with rosewood. The F360s is also a 28-style guitar.

Head’s up that Recording King closed its doors. We have maybe 1 or 2 RD-318’s left in stock, but none of the 328’s. The company has been purchased fairly recently so we expect to see these guitars return, but what quality they’ll be remains to be heard.
