Playing Guitar in Open G tuning

Hi all,

Just curious if anyone plays guitar in open G tuning so that they don’t have to re-think the fretboard when playing between banjo and guitar? If so what resources do you use? I primarily play banjo, but like to play guitar from time to time. I recently retuned one of my guitars to open G and have been playing my banjo chord forms up the neck. Also trying some open G guitar stuff on the banjo. If anyone has a lot of experience to share with this, I’d like to hear your thoughts.

I took the 6th string off my Telecaster and tuned it to open G like Keith Richards. It’s really fun to play stuff like Jumpin Jack Flash in B with that configuration. Also fun to discover how the banjo chords and licks work.

That’s interesting. I never thought about taking a string off. Last night I was experimenting with some blues licks and thinking that I could play all those licks on the banjo😄 it is fun to play around with it. I’ll have to try jumping jack flash. Back in my rock and roll days, I always played it in standard tuning.
