Playing around with Higher Ground

Finally getting a chance to sit down and actually enjoy Jam Trainer. In my older age. I’m finding I prefer the feeling of locking in to the groove of a medium tempo song to playing blazing fast.

And thanks to ol Tex Critter, I no longer need tabs to be able to play melody to a song if I’m familiar with it. Talk about a blessing! I must have played through a dozen old hymns I sang growing up that I likely never played on banjo… but thanks to that Tex lesson and applying those tools at my weekly jams, I’m now able to come up with something without too much difficulty.

That sounds awesome Mark. Glad you have a chance to enjoy Jamtrainer a little after all of your hard work. I have been trying hard lately to get to that level where I can play something on the fly without any tab. That Tex Critter lesson is great. Jamtrainer is great too for picking out tunes at random. Yesterday I had a go at Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain. Never tried it before, but managed to fumble through it ok. The lessons here and your videos are inspiring.

Thanks y’all. It’s kind of a weird enjoying these slower songs since I’ve always been the “Let’s play it blazing fast” type. It feels “bouncy” if that makes any sense… and I love the way it feels locking each note in to the groove of the jam track.
