Planetary Tuners

New member here and new to the banjo world. I have a Gold Tone CC-100R that came with the guitar style tuners. I was wondering what if any benefit I would get from changing over to the planetary type. Thanks in advance! 0=’# (stole the emoji thingy from Tim Osmond)

Hi @BubbaFett Rob welcome To @BanjoBen 's Forum

Banjo’s rarely stay in tune so this is why higher end banjos are fitted with planetary tuners as standard, easier to adjust. The reason you’ll find guitar style tuners on a banjo is to keep cost down. Not sure if it is possible to change from guitar style to planetary without drilling the peghead causing possible damage ask @Jake at the General Store. Might be a wiser option to do a trade-up for a better quality instrument than to attempt any modifications.

Hey @BubbaFett! I think it’s probably not worth the time/expense for the gain you’d receive, but that’s just my opinion. If you’re having tuning problems, you may consider it. Otherwise, I’d just leave as is.

Thanks. I’m not having any tuning issues so I will leave it alone!

Thanks. I hope to get good enough to justify an upgrade one day. For now I will keep my banjo stock.
