Picking thumb posture

Over this past weekend I had the opportunity to practice for a long session. After a couple of hours I noticed my thumb pick was scraping the fourth and fifth strings and it sounded bad. What was happening, I was allowing thumb to bend in a backward arch. I started paying attention to it and began to keep it straight. Of course the sound was much better.
I’m curious if this is something banjo players have to be conscious of. I’ve never heard it discussed.

Not something I have encountered. Great that you found and resolved your problem.
