Headin’ out on a trip to Houston in a while… anyone got some recommended restaurants or destinations to check out? (besides Whataburger of course)
Off to Texas
I’d just work my way through this! https://houston.eater.com/maps/best-houston-barbecue-restaurants
If you like Thai, you can’t beat the Kanomwan off of Telephone Rd. Order the S3 soup and the H6 chicken.
For a super fresh, upscale style meal prepared by a chef that loves his job, check out Ruggles Black at I-69 and Kirby.
For fajitas, it’s tough to beat Lupe Tortilla. Their beef fajitas have a lime marinade that’ll lock your jaw on a good day.
If you want some entertainment dining, see who’s playing at Dosey Doe in the Woodlands up I-45 north. That’s the first place I ever saw The Purple Hulls play.
And if you’re looking for a quick, tasty meal, any Torchy’s Tacos will work.
What’s bringing you to Houston? These are my stomping grounds.
Thanks! There’s a music school week at a church down there where Travis Alltop, Andy Leftwich, and Jim Britton are teaching.
Oh, that’ll be a lot of fun! Hope you enjoy Houston. The food here is really good when you know where to eat. If you tell me where you’re staying maybe I can recommend something in that area.
We’ll be right by the Galleria.
Oh yeah. You can’t throw a rock in that area without hitting a good restaurant. And about 5-10 minutes from the Galleria is an area we call Little India. Lots of great, authentic Indian food if you like that sort of thing.
If you have to get on Loop 610 for any of your travels, though, make sure you leave with time to spare. It doesn’t matter what time of day it is, that stretch of 610 traffic is the worst. I’ve even seen it called the worst in the US. I’ve been there at midnight and traffic still moved at 10 mph.
Thanks! We’re from Chicago, so we’re accustomed to toll roads
Are you driving in or flying? I’m just over an hour east in Beaumont
Driving.
