No NOT Whataburger - Five Guy's

Another favorite of mine is Freddy’s if any of you have one near you. The fries are the best - especially the seasoning they use.

sehr gut

I am afraid my German is not so good. Regrettably I didn’t keep up with my studies. I learned just enough to get by… I can order food, bier and schnapps. I know the road signs. but not much else.

I ate at Five Guys here in Colorado for the first time in a couple of years recently. Regular cheeseburger, medium fries, medium soft drink - $20.83. Then I bought some $4.09 / gallon gas. Awesome day!…

Usually when just a few of us go we get one large order of fries to split. It’s always been plenty of food especially with peanuts as an extra free side

Freddy’s is great. You can buy their fry seasoning by the bottle (a great all around seasoning IMHO). And their custard is pretty awesome too!

Unfortunately I’m usually too full for the custard  although I’ve had it before and it’s great.

So I visited 5 Guy’s today and I gotta say I was underwhelmed. 14 staff behind the counter and they still got my order wrong. A long line waiting to be served stretched out of the restaurant and onto the sidewalk most of these folks were either paying by card or using the app. A kind assistant advising customers how the menu worked and asking how I planned to pay. I told her exactly what I planned to purchase and said I’d be paying by cash and she very kindly took me straight to the cashiers desk. I ordered my food made the payment and waited for my number to be called. So what went wrong? I ordered the double patty burger with jalapeno & green peppers and grilled onions, regular fries and a strawberry milkshake. Although the order stated clearly the green peppers they were not on the bun. I clearly stated I wanted a double patty but the order slip only said #1. It gets worse, the burger was so tiny three bites and it was gone. The meat was cooked but not hot - I am pretty sure it was not High Quality Beef as they claim on their website. I have no way to verify this save for my taste buds & I know what quality beef tastes like.

The bill came to just under $20

Was I satisfied ?
On the plus side there were plenty fries which were hot and the shake was good.

Will I go back NO There are better food outlets in my area. A Good Scotch Pie from a local bakery will set you back about £2.00 two of those will satisfy your hunger for most of the working day for about $5.00. A Steak & Gravy Pie will set you back about £2.25 and you will have the joy of letting the gravy run off your chin and onto one of @BanjoBen 's T shirts.

@Archie, that’s crazy. I have never had a bad experience at any 5 Guys location I have been to. Outside of paying for three burgers but only getting one… Seriously, the wife and I went last week. Two burgers, one small order of fries and two drinks, bill was around $30.

I guess here in Scotland things are different. But in the end it’s their loss not mine. As I stated earlier I am not a fan of burgers no matter whether its MacDonald’s, Burger King or any other US style fast food outlet. To me their meat is bland (junk food) not in the least bit appetizing. If you bought three burgers for $30 then I was definitely ripped off. We do pay tax on food so that might bump up the price.

Sorry for the bad experience Archie.

If you ever get the itch to head towards Texas come on over! I think it sounds like a fun quest to try to find a burger that you would like.

Thanks’ for the invitation @Mike_R I can’t see that happening anytime soon.

GO Merica!! Prove once again America is the Best!!

At least with fast food they are. And Gun laws. In Texas. I would love to move to Texas.

I am guessing you have not been to Scotland, have not had a fish supper with salt & vinegar and a can o’ Irn-Bru or Haggis N’ Chips

Full Scottish Breakfast with Porridge followed by Eggs, Bacon, Lorne Sausage, Black Puddin’ Fried Tomato, Beans, Tattie Scone or Fried Bread and a pot of tea to wash it down.

In a country where the streets are so safe you don’t need to go packing. Because nobody does.

Don’t worry @Archie, i was just kidding. No offense meant to all you Scots and Brits. Was just having a joke since 5 Guys here seems to be much better than there :grinning:

No offense taken @Shaky_loves_banjo We have much in common but over here we don’t treasure or want the kinds of things you folks hold so dear. Our culture is so different.
