My Grandson and his girlfriend will be heading to Nashville in August for a few days. He is on a tight budget so any tips, suggestions I can pass onto him to maximize his visit would be welcome.
Nashville in August
Very cool! Depends on the days, but check out the schedule at The Station Inn, American Legion Post 82, and Dee’s Country Cocktail Lounge for live music. Tour of the Ryman Auditorium is cool, but may be pricey. Country Music Hall of Fame is worth the ticket investment, too.
Thanks Ben
Archie, is he going for the music scene or just to get a taste of Nashville outside of the music scene?
Hi @Oldhat2 Jesse I’d say a “taste of Nashville” he’s not really into Country/Bluegrass but does love live music and takes any opportunity to attend an event just for the experience. His time in Nashville will be limited to a couple of days. It’s quite possible he’s there now I haven’t heard from him since Sunday. From then on he’ll be travelling a lot before heading home around October or till his funds run out.
Got ya.
I was going to suggest some “free things” to see like the Parthenon, perhaps visit some of the Civil War battles/memorials that are littered all over Nash, Franklin, and Murfreesboro.
Since he’s young? Chattanooga is only 1.5 hours away and a young fellow could spend 2-3 days there seeing all the “cool” stuff like Rock City, Ruby Falls, Aquarium, The Chattanoga Choo Choo, world’s steepest train ride, IMAX theatre, and perhaps do some zip lining and such.
If he as a few extra dollars to spend? The Andrew Jackson paddle wheel that is docked in downtown Nash on the river is a great place to get some chow on the river and watch a show/music/performance.
If he gets sidetracked or needs some help while in TN, then hit me up. I’m no longer in the Nash area but instead am up on the “plateau” between Knoxville and Nashville.
Oh, and there’s always the Jack Daniels distillery down in Lynchburg.
Thanks Jesse Will pass this on, hopefully they might get to some of these. I know they are planning a quick visit to Vegas, San Diego and Yellowstone.
Well, he’ll def get a good “taste” with that schedule.
I’m a firm believer that one should “see the world”… the younger the better.
I encourage all three of my children to travel and see the world. Opens a lot of eyes if one is paying attention.
Good for him.
He has done a lot of travelling in his lifetime. He is just 22 and already spent a year living/working in Australia, Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria. Holiday’s in France, Berlin Germany, Dublin Eire and a few other European destinations including a tour of the Scottish Highlands, remote parts, which few Scots ever visit. He has also been to New York and visited Florida several times as a child. His older sister completing her first year as a probationary high school teacher is heading out to Australia later this month. Like me they both have itchy feet, love travel & adventure.
