Nashville/Grand Ole Opry advice

Hi,

Going to Nashville next month with my wife and her family and was wondering if I could get some “things to see and do” advice. So, my wife and her family aren’t country fans but I’d like to check out the Opry. They run a tour. Is that worth it? Skip it and just do the show? Also, anyone know of some neat “hidden jems” things to do? Any advice from anyone would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Keith

We were there back in November for a day and we did the Country Music Hall of Fame. My whole family enjoyed it. It takes about half a day.

We did the tour of the Opry a few years ago and it’s very fascinating and worth doing. They do a good job and the video they show you beforehand is well put together

I agree with @Bhive , the Country Music Hall of Fame is good place to visit.

There is always Gruhn Guitar and Carter Vintage to check out some instruments too.

If y’all are looking for music check out the Station Inn for bluegrass and we also like Rudy’s Jazz Room (obviously for jazz)

There is also I really nice park around The Parthenon that we like to walk around the pond there.

The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum is a worthy visit, and you should go check out Gruhn Guitars & Carter Vintage just to see the incredible inventory.

Some of my favorite restaurants:
Husk
The Southern
Kane Prime (pricey, but about best steaks in town)
Puckett’s Grocery (more of a meat & 3 type deal with live music, usually…several locations)

The Grand Ole Opry tour is fine if you’re a big country music fan. If you can get on the tour that happens during the show, that’s pretty neat as you’re able to see a bit of the hustle & bustle backstage. Attending the show itself is really fun.

Also try and check out a show at the Ryman. If you’re there on a Monday night, do your best to see The Time Jumpers perform at the venue called 3rd and Lindsley: https://www.3rdandlindsley.com/

You can buy your tickets beforehand online and then arrive early for seating. They are a Grammy winning western swing band that is pound for pound the best band configuration in Nashville, dare I say.

And, of course, check out what’s happening at The Station Inn: https://stationinn.com/events/

Hidden Gem for sure is Dee’s Country Cocktail Lounge in Madison. It’s a classic venue, small, intimate, and they book some great folks. It’s a ton of fun. I saw East Nash Grass there last year and the were unreal. Check 'em out: https://deeslounge.com/ All good suggestions here in the thread. I also love Station Inn. Have fun!
