Hi Nikolai! Welcome to the forum. No, you don’t need to know theory to learn the banjo tunes. What I’ve done is work on song lessons at home, then listen to the theory lessons as I drive around town. That way, I’m not wasting valuable practice time on something I can do while multitasking.
