As a Beginner banjo man, here’s my expert opinion: So would I. The problem is I don’t have enough money to pay the royalties for the copyright. That’s a bugaboo with professional music instructors. Since they get paid, the copyright holders expect to get paid, too. It’s a tangled, legal web with a lot of weird rules, but in a nutshell it prohibits Ben from teaching song under copyright.
The good news is Ben will teach you to play the mandolin and many songs that use the same chords, notes & key as “Mr. Bojangles.”
Long before you learn everything there is to know about a mando, you will be able to play “Mr. Bojangles” by ear, by yourself or with John McEuan if he drops by.
This is not a picture of John, but he does play the mando in this one, so watch closely!

Remember, you can go to the Settings on the video & slow it down to 75 or 50% to assist in your struggles.
