My sisters and I spent today recording this song. I hope you enjoyed your day as we remembered those who died for our country.

Lest We Forget

Out little town does a great Memorial Day service. The featured speaker didn’t make it, so instead they encouraged folks in the audience who had a story of a family member who was KIA to come to the microphone and say something about them. It was the best service I’ve ever been to, for several reasons. I had no idea our little town had experienced such wartime loss over the years. There was even a lady there who had two German great uncles that refused to fight when drafted by the Nazis, as they had recognized the evil that Hitler was pursuing. They were put in a POW camp and eventually died there in Germany, for America, and they should be honored.

I love hearing the stories of those who fought for freedom. There are a lot of amazing stories of how we got our freedom. It’s crazy to see that in some of the stories if the event took place in any other way there would be no America. God controls every leader and event!!

A boyhood story

Every Memorial Day I can’t help but shed a few tears remembering Patrick Olson ( https://warthognews.blogspot.com/2010/08/feedback-help-remember-a-10-pilot-lost.html ). He and his young wife, Robin, were neighbors when we lived at Davis Monthan. We met them at a neighborhood picnic, and I’ll always remember his broad smile after he and I connected on a long touchdown pass during a pickup game of football. Not long after, he and his A-10 aircraft were deployed to Desert Storm. A week or two before Patrick’s crash, my wife, Ellen, had a dream that the dreaded blue sedan had stopped in front of our next door neighbors’ home—he was in the same squadron as Patrick. After Robin was notified, another neighbor looked at Ellen and told her that her premonition came true—our next door neighbor was the contact that Patrick had listed to accompany the officers notifying Robin. They had stopped there first before proceeding a few homes further down the road. In the comments in the link above, it was nice to see a post from Robin. We’ve often thought about her, but hadn’t been in contact since that tragic time. Also the linked story mentions the American flag that Patrick always carried on missions—another memory that I recall often. Please don’t forget the price so many paid for our freedoms. If only we all could be so brave in defending them.
