Mandolin's top 3?

Howdy Yawl! I’m starting Mandolin and I already know some chords, the basic melody to cripple creek and some scales. So My question is: “What are the top 3 things I need to be learning on the mandolin, for a beginner”? I kinda feel lost…

Thanks!

Just a preference, but I’d learn how to chop. I really enjoy playing rhythm on mandolin.

I would say the most important things to learn when starting are the basic chop shapes, scales in the major keys like you said, and arpeggios in those keys as well. Other things you could work on are cross picking and tremolo. And some easier mandolin tunes like old Joe clark and salt creek are great!

Hi @Special_K Kaden

I am NOT a mandolin player so feel free to ignore what I have to say.
If I was planning to take up the mandolin I would study the following four mandolin players.

Sierra Hull

Sam Bush

Bill Monroe

Ricky Skaggs

@Mike_R @LinusL I’ll look into that! Thanks Mike and Linus! @Archie Thanks Archie! I’ll check it out!
