Mandolin Fix
Anyone know the best fix for this?
Clamp in place, drill a hole, inset a dowel. glue. Clamp & leave to dry. However better advice is to take it to an expert and have him/her do the repair.
From what I can see from the image it doesn’t look all that bad. A skilled Luthier would be able to restore it I am sure.
Yes, it is only broke off clean on that curve.
Sorry about that! From what I can see, it should be an easy fix. Depending on your desires, I would think it could be just about an invisible repair. Of course if you just want it back in place, it could be a very quick and cheap repair. It all depends on how you want to approach it, but I am confident that it can be fixed.
@Mike_R Yea, I definitely want it as good as possible. Do you know how much it would be to fix it completely?
Sorry, I don’t. It will range greatly depending on the person doing it and the methods used. You’d just have to get some quotes.
Looks like damage done from dropping the instrument. I’m surprised that noone has commented that the damage isn’t in a place that is subject to tension/pressure. The fix should be very simple with superglue and careful alignment, with an excellent cosmetic outcome.
Yes. Done carefully, with no excess glue to ooze out of the joint, you should expect a near perfect cosmetic repair which is 100% functional.
