Hi all,
I was playing with capo 2 in A, and was enjoying the low action created by the capo. Can the nut be sanded down to create lower action? I don’t want to mess it up, as it’s a borrowed Rouge(think cheap) banjo.

Yes, but it’s done with files. I once had to replace a nut because the one on my banjo split, and so I got a guitar nut blank and shaped it. I used a feeler gauge set, turned it into a saw (file teeth into whichever gauge you need) and cut the slots. It’s still not as low as it should be, but I play my nicer banjo mostly now

It can be done, but best to ask permission form the owner first…
