Lotsa Banjos, But Anything But Bluegrass

From 1992 comes “Banjo Meltdown,” a gathering of some of the best banjo players of that era. The whole thing was a project of Middle Tennessee State University.

You’ll see John Hartford, Bela Fleck, Pete Seeger, Bill Keith, John McEuen, Tony Trishka and a hundred other banjo players from all over the world, but no bluegrass. Many of them say the same thing:“When I first heard a banjo, there was something about that sound.”
No doubt there will be much of it that’s not your cup of tea. Some of it you might find interesting. And some of it might make you say, “This is really good!”
It’s hard to watch it and not come away thinking, “I’d like to learn to play the banjo.”
