Liberty Banjo Company

I just picked up an old worn “Gibson” MASTERTONE” banjo. It was identified as a fake pretty quickly. It has a great sound and action. I don’t like frosted heads, I like smooth ones. I have 2 clear heads, so I decided to go with black. When I took it apart, I found 3 things. Script “BF” on the tension ring and “Liberty Banjo Co,” and again the script “BF” on the outside of the pot. Every external metal surface is engraved. Bob Flesher was part owner of Liberty Banjo Company. Still not sure what I have, but is sure is purdy and sounds awesome.

Does the inlay on the neck say Mastertone, or Monstertone???

Sure is pretty! As long as you like it, who cares if it’s a fake?

Mastertone

Just curious. I planned on it becoming my “beater” campfire banjo. But it has such a beautiful sound, it’s become my favorite.
