I have a bass student who is on this forum. I heartily believe the two most important parts in a small group is the bass and the melody… I say this even though I am also a guitarist don’t hurt me…
My advice to him was not only to learn how to walk the bass and “Connect” the chords with his bass line, but also to learn the melody on his bass. The bass has a glorious voice for soloing. He and I are having fun with this - thought I would toss this out there for conversation.
