Kit Guitars-Resonator

During lockdown I got up to many things such that we could continue to function as Family during lockdown, bubbles and more. Built a cabin in the Garden such that we could sit outside with doors open but admit even doing all those things and continuing to walk dogs I personally went downhill but did not notice it. I tried to catch up on the forums this morning with those it looked like I ignored .

I will though share a project I did get up to along with its trials. Had always fancied a Slide Guitar whilst not really wanting to play much more than Dust my Broom type songs so justification was low. During COVID bought a Kit Guitar always a risk but at around $125 gave it a shot.

So if you do something similar chuck away all the screws and bolts they send they will all break so small outlay for replacements. I did not expect the action to be perfect but had to do much more work than anticipated and only glad I learnt Trigonometry ( Genuinely ) such that I knew how much to take off and from where.
Otherwise I would have just been filing away at it until I only had a pile of sawdust . You know when a Dining table becomes a Coffee Table type moment.

Sound holes are aesthetic only they were not part of the hollow body but drilled through from behind resonator plate and to my delight and partial surprise this did add to sound when played acoustically.
Think I drilled through with 1/2 Inch 13mm bit.

Electronics surprised does exactly what it should I have an amplified sound that could be a bit smoother but getting picky now.
Wood stain and polish and looks good enough for my needs.

Tuned it to Open D and it holds that Tuning for long enough and I get to Toy around with a Resonator.

You might note an inexpensive Pick behind the Treble Strings:wink:

Thank you and hope that I gave an honest appraisal it all comes in a box you have to fit neck and all . But for thrashing around in your own home and amongst friends and family it does a job. Purists I am sure would fall off their chairs

it was Very well written. Don’t think I could pull that off. Whenever I am around pointy tools, there is blood flowing.

Something I had never considered when my music just consisted of hitting chords was hand health. Now playing daily I am so much more careful if not slower doing tasks in house and garden (Probably not a bad thing). And only 2 weeks ago I stabbed myself in the index finger with a bradawl . That was 3 days off from playing. Professional players must really be challenged at times!
