We want your participation! Scotty, Gunnar, and I are planning a “lightning round” Q&A for our podcast.
Please post any and all questions (music related or otherwise) below– the more input, the better (don’t hesitate to leave several if you want to).
INPUT NEEDED: Listener Q&A
What’s the best way to learn multiple instruments and/or styles. I’ve played banjo since 2003 and guitar since 2011 and want to get better at both. I also like rock on the electric guitar which is a bit different than bluegrass. To top it off, I started piano this last year and enjoy that too and most recently started trying to work on vocals (which is the hardest one IMO). Should I try to concentrate on one for a week and switch or just try to play a little bit on each one in a rotation?
Q: Do I have to learn Scruggs style before learning melodic?
Q: I know it’s good to play with other people, but what if you are the only banjo fan in town? Is playing along with a record almost as good?
Q: How the heck can I figure out quickly what key the song is in?
Q: Haven’t women suffered enough? Is it time to finally bring an end to women’s sufferage?
Michael, you’re better than most people twice your age. Explain your practice routine. Frequency, duration, what do you practice, etc.
What would work better for a cutlass 1095 or 80crv2?
You did say otherwise right?
Also where can I find your podcasts?
How about, what first got you into playing bluegrass? What is it about bluegrass music that you think appeals to so many people? Who are your top 3 musical heroes?
I second Libbys question on musical heroes
What advice can you offer an elderly beginner who is slow to learn, doesn’t understand any music theory. Doesn’t have anyone to explain things.
Thanks
Michael, I’m curious on your answer to @scott_wilson’s question!
Plus, what advice would you have to quickly transition from reading a music in a tab into playing by ear. More specifically, how did you manage to do it with Ben’s “God bless America” tab in short time?
Q: Is Bluegrass Music straying to far from it’s roots with some of the new “Progressive” Bluegrass, or is there room at the table for both?
