Sometimes you learn a song long time ago, and it’s like you’re reading the lyrics for the very first time. This happened to me with a song by Jim Croce called “I got a name“. He found a way to capture the sentiment that really touched me.
Like the pine trees lining the winding road
I got a name, I got a name
Like the singing bird and the croaking toad
I got a name, I got a name
This is the part that made me tear up a bit…
And I carry it with me like my daddy did
But I’m living the dream that he kept hid
My dad put a lot of his dreams on hold permanently in order for me to be able to live MY dreams, He had been a professional athlete, and was a gifted radio and TV broadcaster. He put all of that aside in order to have a factory job so that I could grow up and live my dreams. I do miss my dad. I wish I had realized this when he was alive so I could tell him.
