"High Rollers" Concept

Lots of white hair at this one but the Jam Session was fun. Classic Bluegrass.

Great idea! Macon Ga has bluegrass jams every Saturday I think at Young America Music. I’ve never been to one, but I hear they are pretty good. As far as food goes, it’s hard to beat home cookin! I can’t wait to see what you come up with.

Hey @BanjoBen!

Brand new to the forum but just saw this post and think it’s an awesome idea! I’m a private pilot and pretty new banjo player, but know of a few cool opportunities if you ever end up in the Atlanta area. Some good friends of mine have their own private strip (GA75, just a bit south of Atlanta) with tons of room for pickin’/camping/shooting guns/etc and have little fly-in’s every now and then, could be a neat spot for some videos. My in-person banjo teacher here in town (Geoff Hohwald) also has a pretty incredible banjo collection and might be down to show a few of them off. Anyhow, hit me up if you ever are up this way, would be cool to meet up!

Awesome, and I know Geoff as well! That would be a fun trip for sure. Welcome to the forum!

I learned a lot from Geoff when I was starting out. He really is a terrific guy. Look forward to watching any jam session footage. Don’t forget @BanjoBen you have some fine banjo pickers literally on your doorstep that you may care to interview Charlie Cushman, JD Crowe, Kenny Ingram all spring to mind.

My wife and I love the Hard 8 in Roanoke. That is solid brisket. Reno Red’s Cookhouse is also worth the stop.

Ben, that’s a great idea! I live near Tampa, FL and we have some great jams down this way twice a month, if you want an excuse to come down let me know. If you get in the GA, FL, AL area let me know and I’ll get in my RV-6 and come meet you!

With a title like that–High Rollers, It’s almost a must
to visit Las Vegas. You could pay a visit to the Southern Nevada Bluegrass Music Society, pick with the boys in “Out of the Desert,” who are involved with putting on https://vivalasvegrass.org/ bluegrass festival.
I hear there is another festival too that happens in vegas (of which Del McCourry just played). Furthermore, I’m told that the Bass Pro Shop at the Silverton Casino hosts a jam on occasion. Another cool episode could be held at the world famous Magic Castle in Hollywood where you could meet with banjo pickin’ magicians such as Steve Martin (and there are others, including myself. Anyone else here on the forum prestidigitate?). The Castle has fine dining too.
Heck if ya make it out this far west, you could even drop in and pick with the kids learning bluegrass music at a public elementary school during part of the regular school day for an elective. The kind folks of the Southwestern Bluegrass Music Association donate the instruments. (Guess that’s a 3rd idea).
A fourth idea for an episode would be to visit the American Banjo Museum in Ok.
I would mention a fifth idea of sky diving banjoists, but with your ankle and all, I wouldn’t want you to push it

That’s on the short list! Thanks!

I would like to see you have jam classes for your members. Then maybe we could get a little one on one with the banjo master. Went to a jam workshop once, was very disappointed. Wasted a lot of money and didnt learn anything. It costed more than Banjo Ben gold pick membership. THANKS Ben for all you do for us!!!
