Help for hard times

Hi folks,

well the last 18 months have been hell for all of us. I battled cancer, I lost my brother, my sister and just recently my 25 yr old daughter on Aug. 9th, 2021, . Still here though, sad but still here.

My Josie… loved “I’ll Fly Away” from the OBWAT sound track. She would run around me with arms out wide saying “daddy I’m flying” smiling with some teeth missing when she was 7. Now she really is flying in that land above. My heart is broken. I would not ask her to come back here and I know she would not want to. But I miss my girl so much…

Does anyone know that song on Mandolin??? Ben, could you offer it as a lesson???
Just to help me smile again as I think of my girl Josie??? I am crying as I write this

Dean,
I’m so sorry to hear of the loss of your loved ones. I can’t imagine the grief you’re experiencing and will be praying for you and you family during this time!

The mandolin lesson got removed (there used to be one), but here are some tab files:

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. – John 14:27

Hi Dean So sorry to hear about your sad loss.

I do believe I’ll Fly Away is still in copyright in which case @BanjoBen will not do a lesson anytime soon.

But I did find this tutorial on YouTube that I hope will bring you some comfort.

Dean ~ I’m so sorry and I’ll be praying for you. “But the LORD thy God turned the curse into a blessing unto thee, because the LORD thy God loved thee” (Deuteronomy 23:5). God is able to bring greater good out of every horrible situation, and He will be close to you and make you stronger because of these unimaginable trials. Just believe He loves you. While I can’t feel your pain and don’t claim to be able to, HE CAN. Praying for peace for you, and that you would find healing as you play the songs your daughter loved. Music is such a comfort. Please let us know if there is any way any of us can help you.

That is so sad Dean, so sorry to hear of your loss. May God be nearer now than ever before. Keep pushing through, never give up. God will give you strength if you turn to him, so do that now more than ever. My prayers are with you, Brother!

Dean,

I am praying for peace for you in this terrible storm. I love your perspective that you wouldn’t ask her to come back… that’s more mature than I typically am.

Here’s a more basic version than what @Michael_Mark posted:

Man-IllFlyAway-Bas.tef (1.9 KB)

May God bless you.

Dean, you have my deepest condolences for the loss of your beautiful daughter. I’ll add you to my prayer list for God’s peace for you as you remember her. Those memories are what sustain us in our grief and we recall better days and know we’ll see our loved ones in heaven. There’s a verse of I’ll Fly Away that I had not heard before–“Oh how glad and happy when we meet, I’ll Fly Away, No more cold iron shackles on my feet, I’ll Fly Away”. God bless you.

I can’t help you mando lessons, but I have walked a similar path. Two open heart surgeries for me, and the death of my only son at age 32. Here’s what I learned from a woman who lost her teenage daughter to a murder-suicide —

If the child’s death is natural and expected, it will take 2 -3 years to come to grips with it.
If it is an unexpected death, it will take 3-7 years. If it is unexpected & violent, it will take 7-10 years. We both know the 7-10 year figure to be accurate.

You’ll hear a lot about “the stages of grief.” Though they may be numbered, the do not occur in order. You will bounce from one stage to another, often several times in one day.
And you will have many moments of tears & many moments of seeing your departed loved ones. It’s as real as it gets. My wife & I started calling those moments “visits from Joseph.” They are very intense and not always sad. Gradually they decrease in number, but they never go away.
One thing that really helped up, oddly enough, was a movie by Emilio Estavez, starring his father, Martin Sheen. The film is called “The Way.” It’s about things that happen while walking a great hike called the Camino de Santiago, a 500 mile journey on foot across southern France and through the Pyrenees mountains into Spain. Grief is a major theme in the movie, but it is not a depressing film at all.
Here’s the trailer from YouTube -

Welcome to the journey, my friend.

That’s too tough, @DLS. But remember this: Jesus wants you, and he will restore to you.

I heard this version for the first time with Jars of Clay. One of my favorite bands.
