Will Martin strings work well on a Taylor Guitar?

Hey @Richard_Alexander! Yes Martin strings will work. The brand isn’t usually what matters (though some brands are higher quality than others). What you want to look for is guage/tension. Usually you want medium gauge for dreadnought/flatpicking and light guage for smaller body/fingerstyle. Also the alloy that they are made of makes a big difference in the tone. There’s a lot of different types, such as phospher bronze, nickel bronze, 80/20 bronze, monel nickel, ect. You kinda just gotta experiment with different types and guages and see what sounds best to you on your specific guitar.

That was probably more info than you wanted :grinning:. Hopefully something in there was helpful.

I like the Monels quite a bit. To my ear they have a more fundamental tone (less overtones), they feel looser in tension and they last longer than many coated strings.

Hey there, @Richard_Alexander! Some other great strings that a lot of bluegrass players use are the Elixir Phospher Bronze Nanoweb strings. They are more expensive but they last a really long time! Hope that this is helpful!
