Gospel Jam Songs

Hey Y’all, I host a bluegrass jam in the Atlanta-area. We were thinking of having a one-off jam of gospel bluegrass songs. So I wanted to get your thoughts on what are the most common gospel songs you hear called at jams. I know there are hundreds out there. Here are a few to get the list started. I’m curious to hear what other common gospel tunes you hear at jams. Thanks in advance!

I Saw the Light
I am a Pilgrim
Are you washed in the blood
Who will sing for me
Leaning on the everlasting arms
I’ll Fly Away

Don’t think Tear in my Beer fits the Gospel Jam list🤪

What if it’s a tear of repentance?

The ones we often do include old-time gospel as well. A not-all-so-totally grassy list of additions:
Just a closer walk
Drifting too far
Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus
How great Thou art
In the sweet by and by
Where we never grow old
In the garden
When the roll is called up yonder
I shall not be moved
I stand amazed in the presence
Nothing but the blood
The old rugged cross
If we never meet again this side of heaven
Beulah land
On the wings of a dove
Waiting on the far side banks of Jordan
Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Victory in Jesus
Boil the cabbage down (before someone asks, food=fellowship)

I would add Little White Church in the Valley. Billy and his dad did it on a recent CD.

There’s a snappy rendition of Love Lifted Me by none other than @BanjoBen and his talented sisters. Penny flat out rips the mandolin break. They play it in D which would be a fantastic lesson. Hint hint.

These are a bit less common but are favorites of mine that I’ve tried at jams recently and they’ve worked very well:

A Beautiful Life – Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver (has a cool call and response element that is fun if other people in your jam are up for singing with you)

The Old Ship of Zion – Ralph Stanley (Ralph does it a capella but it’s not hard to put some 3/4 time chords behind it and speed it up a little)

Someday My Ship Will Sail – Emmylou Harris
