You’ll love it man! I hope to see another DLQ show before Doyle retires.

Great!

He’ll be closing out the festival I’ll be at next weekend.

Nope first time, Ben is an absolutely amazing tenor. They were having trouble with their in ears so a lot of what they did was quartet stuff. It was amazing.

We’ve heard his new band twice now. I think it’s the best he’s ever had, and Ben is as good as Jamie Dailey. Too bad they won’t be on the road like this for long.

I really like the new quartet. Ben does remind me of Jamie- he’s got that really smooth voice and a super clean break. (I still think no quartet configuration will beat Jamie Dailey, Barry Scott, and Dale Perry, though.) I definitely miss Joe Dean playing banjo with them, though Eli is incredible as well. It’s super cool to see the twin fiddles back, too. And now that they have five dedicated singers, there are a lot of different quartet sounds Doyle can pull with the group.

They have the closest configuration now than they ever did to what was also my favorite lineup - the 2003 “Thank God” album band (with the vocal quartet Michael Mark mentioned, plus the twin fiddles J. W. Stockman and Jess Barry). It’s pretty amazing how in their live shows now he’s bringing back a lot of that sound with songs from that “Thank God” album he hasn’t done in years… like “I Drink From the Fountain,” “Wait a Little Longer Please Jesus,” etc. Definitely don’t miss a chance to see them between now and the end of 2022! He’s closing out with one of his strongest bands yet.

I really like that they’ve rejuvenated this quartet number:
