This is what I am as a guitar teacher. I am a foundation builder. There is no greater joy for me then to take an 11-year-old child who has never touched a guitar or any other musical instrument and introduce them to this fabulous instrument that we love so much. I love the look on their faces when they are able to play their first song. I have never forgotten what it was like to learn the chords D A and G, and then drop the needle on the Creedence Clearwater album to play “Bad Moon Rising“ and play along with it. I want that experience for each one of my students. I have some more advanced students, and I love playing with them don’t get me wrong,
But seeing the look of awe on my 11-year-old student today as he took the chords he learned and played along with the recording of a song he loves was priceless. Folks, we who play are the most privileged of folks, methinks.
