First jam jitters

How do I join my first jam.without panicking? Im not sure ill remember any songs. Plus my song repertoire is pretty limited. Should I just try to vamp ? Maybe do forward backward rolls over chords.?. Last time I played my instructor tried to vamp behind me amd I was totally lost. :grimacing:

@Richard621 maybe this will help:

Thanks. I went through those videos

Ok…I survived my first jam. I just tried to follow the guitar player, obviously the music was fast but i vamped when I could but I did a couple rolls on the last song. But I did learn alot by watching and now I know what I need to work on.

Huge first step. I can’t stress enough how important jams are to improving your skill… at least that’s been my experience. I played banjo for years before I started going to jams, and I wish I had started way sooner.

Good job tackling your jitters.

Im trying. Im not a fast learner , I never played any instrument . I was able to swap my old banjo for a guitar and i learned a couple of chords on it. So that was a huge help in following along with the songs. thanks for all the support
