Finger Nail Length

If mine touch the fingerboard I trim them…not ridiculously short, just trim…

Using your nail on your middle finger, place it against the first string at the 12th fret pick the string with your right hand. Now keeping the nail on the string slide up to the 17th fret. Hear how clean that sounds ?

As I recall Bill Evans talks about this on one of his Acutab videos. I tried it but it was just too painful

I used to use my fingernails to accentuate pull offs, but I stopped shortly afterward. Currently I find that fingernails get in the way of clean fretting. It is true that after you cut them you lose some callous support, but if you play enough with short nails you do get it back. Just best to not change your nails right before a gig
