Eddie & Martha Adcock a remarkable true life story
Let’s see, it must have been 25 or 30 years ago that I saw Eddie and Martha at what was billed as Wintergrass in San Mateo, California. It was a really good winter bluegrass festival in a big hotel. Walking in there was a guy playing a saw at the door. They had a conference room filled with merchandise, instruments, and various other items for sale and the hotel was packed with pickers. I think management put all the pickers in the same wing. We saw some good bands but Eddie and Martha are what I remember most. Eddie had his banjo mounted on a stand and he had his guitar on a strap that he would whip back and forth. He’d play just about anything the audience called for. When it was time for a banjo break he’d toss the guitar over his shoulder, step up, and then tear off a barn burning banjo break. It was incredible.
