Earworm Stuck In Your Brain?

Ever get a song stuck in your head? Of course you have!
Ever wonder what Science has to say about that?
Or has Science shrugged & said, “Beats me?”

And if you really want to get deep in the weeds, here’s the paper on which the article is based -

Let’s see…how does that song go again? :musical_note: :musical_note::banjo:

I literally have a song playing in my head every waking minute of every day. For the longest time, I just thought that’s how it was for everyone. Someone asked me once “Why are you always humming?” I said it’s just the song my brain decided to get stuck on for now. They told me that was weird, and that’s how I discovered not everyone has a jukebox in their mind.

Honestly, I like it. My wife recently explained to me that some people have an inner voice that talks to them and often says “Not nice things.” I’d much rather have a radio station in my head than a constant critic.

Literally from the second I wake up to the second I go to sleep. I imagine something is playing in my sleep too. Who knows?

It’s kinda cool, isn’t it?

Yeah, it’s been that way for me since I was a little kid.

One of the most annoying things is when you write songs in your dreams and then can’t remember what they sounded like when you wake up.

Not me! I just have tinnitus and it’s there 24/7 . I’d like to wake up one morning and find it was gone.

For years I ran one of the few construction crews around that didn’t allow a job radio. I’ve had music running in my head, for as long as I can remember and I could still hear someone yelling for help etc.

its a gift, when i get back to my banjo i try to figure out the melody or its a song i was practicing in the morning and a certain part stays with me all day to remind me i have unfinished business and still need to work on that song or a technique in that song

love it

It definitely is a gift, except on those days when it’s 1 line of a song I don’t really know, so that just keeps repeating over and over again.

Welcome to the board!

It could be worse. I was in the car once and wrote a song for the girl I’d just started dating. I was seriously excited about this song. I thought it was the best thing I’d ever come up with. Before I could pull over and write it down or record the words, she called me. That call was to break up with me. Song was instantly gone. I have no idea what it was even about.

The funniest part of this story is that I’m now married to that girl, and I still haven’t written her a song. :stuck_out_tongue:

3/4 time in G

"So you want a divorce
And I want a horse
Why can’t we both agree.
Some things just ain’t right
But we must keep in sight
That the lawyers just want their fee.

(Chorus)
There’s trouble at home
We cry & we moan
We squabble each night until three
There’s no make-up kiss
That’s one thing I miss
But the lawyers just want their fee.

Now with a divorce
And I had a horse
You’d get my horse, you see.
It’s not what you need
You’ve no use for my steed
But the lawyers all get a fee.

(Chorus)
There’s trouble at home
We cry & we moan
We squabble each night until three
There’s no make-up kiss
that’s one thing I miss
But the lawyers just want their fee.

A divorce will take time
And a horse is not mine
Please, won’t you listen to me.
If we play it smart now
And not have a cow
The lawyers won’t get their fee!

(Chorus)
Yes, trouble at home
We cried & we moaned
We squabbled each night until three
But those days are done
We’re together as one
And the lawyers don’t get a fee!

You guys will have to forgive me for this…here’s a song to get stuck in your head. “It’s a Small, Small World.” You’re welcome.

Love it!

Perhaps a closing verse to wrap it around back to Mark’s post:
You without me
Was not meant to be
Being apart, it just seemed wrong
I’m sorry to say
That it took things that way
For me to finally write you your song

Ha! That’s great, Joe!

I don’t know if you intended it, but for some reason my brain read it to the Hee Haw tune “Where Oh Where Are You Tonight”

Funny you should mention that- After I wrote it, I was trying to think of a melody & that’s EXACTLY what came to mind!

Pfffft~

By the way, in case it was confusing,
“You without me
Was not meant to be”
Is saying that being apart was not supposed to be. It’s still a happy ending.
