Does anyone here multi track record?

Looking for advice for some reasonable computer interface kits with Mic and Head phones and I have been told there is free software you can down load for multi track recording. Don’t need high end pro stuff…just something for my own reference. Any recommendations? BTW, not interested in any phone apps. Just want to use my PC

Reaper is a really good software that’s free for I think 60 days, after that it’s only $60 for the full version.

On Mac, Garageband is free and works quite well for most projects that aren’t crazy involved.

@oaklymaple and I have also been using BandLab, a free web program with a simple DAW interface. For basic purposes it works pretty well!

I use a Focusrite audio interface model 2I2. It has 2 inputs that accept mic or line. Also has phantom power if needed, and it can be monitored with speakers or headphones.

If you want to use virtual instruments, Ableton is good software for recording, though not the most intuitive.

Audacity recording software is free, easy to use and relatively robust.

Hope that helps.

Another vote for the Focusrite. I have a Scarlett 2i2 as well.

Indeed, use Audacity. No reason to use paid proprietary software when good free open source software exists.
